Clanrye Group’s vital Social Supermarket has been relocated from The Quays to Ballybot House in the An Stóras building, a move that brings easier access, more space, and greater opportunity to serve local people who need support now more than ever.
The Social Supermarket – a community initiative from the Newry, Mourne and Down Strategic Stakeholder Forum, is more than just shelves and supplies — it’s a place of dignity, hope, and solidarity. At a time when many families and individuals across our community are facing impossible choices between heating and eating, this initiative provides a lifeline. With access to affordable, nutritious food and wrap-around support services, the Social Supermarket is helping people not just survive, but find a pathway to stability and wellbeing.
But we cannot do it alone.
We Need Your Help – Right Now
As the demand for our services grows, so too does our need for community support. The future of funding for the Social Supermarket is not certain and we are calling on local individuals, businesses, and organisations to stand with us. You can make a difference in the lives of your neighbours by donating:
- Non-perishable food items (canned goods, pasta, rice, toiletries, baby items, etc.)
- Monetary donations to help us stock essentials and expand our reach
Every tin, every pound, every act of kindness counts.
“The Social Supermarket has been a godsend. It’s not just the food – it’s the feeling that someone cares,” says one local mother, who found support at a time when her cupboard was empty and hope was running low.
Since its launch, Clanrye Group’s Social Supermarket has helped hundreds of local families, offering both practical help and emotional support. Our new home at Ballybot
House is central, welcoming, and ready to serve — but we need the shelves stocked and the lights kept on.
Together, We Can Make a Real Difference
Raymond Jackson, Vice Chair of the Strategic Stakeholder Forum is asking for your help, “We believe in community – and we believe in you. If you’re in a position to help, please get in touch, donate, or drop by. Let’s show that when times get tough, Newry stands strong, side by side. Let’s make sure no one is left behind.”
